WINDOWSCENTRAL – The finals for Microsoft’s 2016 Imagine Cup are fast approaching, and the tech giant has just announced that Star Wars: The Force Awakens actor John Boyega will be a special guest judge for the student competition.

As any Star Wars fan will be aware, Boyega played the role of Finn, the stormtrooper-turned-hero in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Speaking about his new role as an Imagine Cup judge, Boyega says:

“As an actor, I work with special effects all the time. And the only thing more amazing than Hollywood movie magic is the passion and creativity of the students at the Imagine Cup.”

Boyega will be joined by Dr. Jennifer Tang, who previously took part in and won 2014’s Imagine Cup as part of a team that developed a “non-invasive screening tool for anaemia.” Tang is now a doctor in a Melbourne trauma center.

For those unfamiliar, Imagine Cup is Microsoft-sponsored competition that serves to highlight student teams that come up with interesting new applications for technology, ranging from the fun to the life-saving. This year’s World Championship Imagine Cup live stream will kick off at 9 a.m. PT on July 29. For now, you can check out all of the entrants in Microsoft’s blog post for more.

COLLIDER – Over the past few months, news has been creeping in about Pacific Rim 2. We learned that Daredevil: Season 1 showrunner Steven S. DeKnight would be taking over directing duties from Guillermo del Toro (who will return in a producing capacity), Derek Connolly (Jurassic World) would be handling the script, and that John Boyega had been cast in the lead role of Stacker Pentecost’s (Idris Elba) son.

Today, we finally know when we’ll be seeing the jaegers and the kaiju again. Universal and Legendary Pictures have announced that Pacific Rim 2 will open on February 23, 2018. There’s currently nothing slated for that date. However, it opens one week after Black Panther and one week before the killer shark movie Meg as well as an untitled Fox / Marvel movie (possibly Deadpool 2? Or maybe New Mutants?), so it’s not like it’s going to be clear sailing for the sequel.

What’s also interesting about the press release is that it lists John Boyega as the only cast member. Here’s the text:

John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) leads the cast of PACIFIC RIM 2, the follow-up to 2013’s cinematic battle for global domination that took audiences to future Earth’s land, skies and seas and introduced an entirely new kind of warfare. Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus, Daredevil) directs the next chapter of the film that generated more than $400 million at the global box office, including a strong performance in China. The 3D epic adventure will be produced by returning PACIFIC RIM producers Thomas Tull, Guillermo del Toro and Mary Parent. Boyega joins the production team alongside Femi Oguns.

There’s no mention of Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, or anyone else who survived the first movie. Does this mean their starting over from scratch? Will it be a more Chinese cast since the Chinese box office performance is pretty much the whole reason we’re getting this movie? It will be interesting to see what info surfaces on Pacific Rim 2 in the months ahead.

MTV – Saturday Night Live struck comedy gold with its “Star Wars Auditions” sketch last November, which featured cast members impersonating celebs auditioning for the blockbuster sequel. But apparently there was a ton of bonus, star-studded footage left on the cutting room floor… until now.

In a new video from the sketch, we see even more fake auditions, including Vanessa Bayer as Jennifer Lawrence and Kyle Mooney as Shia LaBeouf. The real Emma Stone and Jon Hamm make hilarious return appearances, alongside Matthew McConaughey, who delivers a poor pitch to play Lando Calrissian.

The real MVPs here, though, are Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, whose charm and charisma reminds us why we fell in love with them in the first place. Plus — who knows?! — maybe Boyega’s Denzel Washington–inspired “urbanized” Stormtrooper will make a cameo in Episode VIII.

The Force Awakens actor is back in brick in the new trailer for the Lego Star Wars video game

RADIO TIMES – Star Wars actor John Boyega is a busy boy right now.

As if filming the next Episode in the franchise wasn’t work enough, he’s also preparing for a theatre production with Harry Potter playwright Jack Thorne AND working on a Netflix and BBC adaptation of children’s classic Watership Down.

Thankfully, there’s still a chance to see more of him as Finn – in the Lego Star Wars video game.

Boyega recorded his own dialogue for the Lego version of his Force Awakens character, meaning we all get to check in with everybody’s favourite treacherous stormtrooper/sanitation supervisor.

Check out an exclusive clip of the game below, due out 28th June 2016.

METROJohn Boyega has said a romance between Finn and Poe Dameron in Star Wars 8 is possible.

This should make a few shippers very happy.

Since The Force Awakens opened some Star Wars fans have had a theory that Boyega’s Stormtrooper Finn, and Oscar Issac’s pilot Poe could be more than just friends.

Well they are already wearing each other’s clothes.

After initially shooting the idea down in flames, BAFTA-winner Boyega has now said anything could happen in the Star Wars universe.

Speaking to press backstage after winning the Rising Star Award on Sunday (via Radio Times), he said: ‘What’s so funny, I posted a video the other day of myself working out, skipping, and in the background Oscar is just like, “Yeah baby go on!” and people just went crazy.
