John Boyega said south east London was lucky to have such a facility

SOUTHWARK NEWS – The mother of a young terminally-ill girl has said her child enjoyed a “life-changing” experience when she met her hero – Star Wars star John Boyega.

The BAFTA-winning actor took a brief break from filming Star Wars Episode VIII to pay a visit to the Demelza Hospice, which looks after children from south east London, on June 13.

John, who was born in Camberwell and realised his acting talent at Theatre Peckham, said he wanted to help make the children’s dreams come true.

“I’d heard about the great work of Demelza so couldn’t wait to visit and help make some dreams come true,” he said. “I was blown away by the children and the nurses who do such a fantastic job of caring for them. South east London is extremely fortunate to have such an amazing charity on its doorstep, ensuring families get the support they need. I just hope people will continue to do what they can to support this great cause.”

Many of the children dressed as Star Wars characters for the occasion. Four-year-old Eshan, who suffers with a rare form of rickets, did his best Boyega impression whilst dressed as his character – the stormtrooper Fin.

His mum, Shara, said: “I don’t think I’ve ever seen Eshan so excited – it’s made his day.

“It’s been a very tough year so to see him so happy is absolutely wonderful. Days like today make our time here even more special.”

30 Under 30 2016- Hollywood & Entertainment - Forbes

DEADLINE – Legendary Pictures has set Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega for the lead role for the second installment of its Pacific Rim franchise. Steven S. DeKnight is directing the film, which will begin production in the fourth quarter of this year, based on the world created by Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham. Boyega will play the son of the character played by Idris Elba in the del Toro-directed original film. Universal will release the film worldwide, everywhere but China. The 2013 original grossed $411 million.

Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni, and del Toro will produce the action adventure film along with Boyega and Femi Oguns under their Upper Room Productions shingle. Cale Boyter is executive producer. The picture is a beach head project for Legendary, under the leadership of Parent, who became Tull’s vice chairman of Worldwide Production after Jashni exited to start his own venture. The principals have confirmed to Deadline they found their man in Boyega.

“It is undeniable that with all his talent and natural charm, John stands out amongst today’s generation of young leading men,” said Parent.

Said del Toro: “I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox. The Pacific Rim universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world. ‘The World saving the world’ was our goal and I couldn’t think of a better man for the job.”

BBC – Star Wars actor John Boyega has become a patron of the theatre he worked with as a child.

The 24-year-old, who played stormtrooper Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, was a member of Theatre Peckham’s company from age nine to 14.

He said he admired the theatre was “inspiring young people like myself to be the change we want to see in the industry”.

Boyega is currently filming the eighth instalment of the Star Wars franchise.

“I admire Theatre Peckham’s continued mission to increase diversity in the creative industries,” he said.

“As a graduate of the company, I am honoured to be in a position to give back.”

The theatre’s founder and artistic director, Teresa Early, said Boyega’s role as patron “will be a huge boost for our young members”, adding: “Now there’s an act for them to follow.”

The theatre’s other patrons include actors Sir Ian McKellen, Jenny Agutter and David Harewood, and theatre director Paulette Randall.

Boyega is due to return to the stage in The Old Vic’s production of Woyzeck in February 2017.

MTV – Saturday Night Live struck comedy gold with its “Star Wars Auditions” sketch last November, which featured cast members impersonating celebs auditioning for the blockbuster sequel. But apparently there was a ton of bonus, star-studded footage left on the cutting room floor… until now.

In a new video from the sketch, we see even more fake auditions, including Vanessa Bayer as Jennifer Lawrence and Kyle Mooney as Shia LaBeouf. The real Emma Stone and Jon Hamm make hilarious return appearances, alongside Matthew McConaughey, who delivers a poor pitch to play Lando Calrissian.

The real MVPs here, though, are Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, whose charm and charisma reminds us why we fell in love with them in the first place. Plus — who knows?! — maybe Boyega’s Denzel Washington–inspired “urbanized” Stormtrooper will make a cameo in Episode VIII.

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER – Time to put the costume back in the closet, internet.

Despite a persistent rumor, John Boyega will not be in Marvel Studios’ Black Panther.

The last 24 hours has seen speculation spread that the Star Wars star would be joining Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o and Michael B. Jordan in the Marvel movie.

But Boyega’s reps tell THR that the actor is not and will not be part of the movie, which is building up a predominant black cast under the direction of Ryan Coogler, the director behind Creed, as it focuses on the very first black superhero in American comics.

Boyega’s agent in the U.K. took to Twitter to also deny the rumor, which began when Kevin Feige began following the actor on Twitter.

The British actor, who rose to fame in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, added a further prize to his award shelf when he was presented with the Trophee Chopard, an annual prize for up-and-coming stars, by French actress Juliette Binoche as part of the Cannes Film Festival.
British actress Bel Powley was also given the award, and they both follow in the footsteps of previous recipients, which include Marion Cotillard, Diane Kruger, and Shailene Woodley.

Accepting his award, John thanked his agent Femi Oguns “because he’s the reason for this,” as he gestured up and down his body. He also joked with Chopard bosses if he can keep the accolade, saying, “I get to have it, right? Just checking.”

John and Bel went up against each other for the Rising Star BAFTA Award in February (16) alongside Brie Larson, Taron Egerton and Dakota Johnson. John emerged victorious, taking home the blue BAFTA mask. He also won the Best Male Newcomer prize at the Empire Awards in London in March (16).

Speaking with Vulture after the Cannes ceremony, John reflected on how life has changed since starring in the highly anticipated movie. He said, “I get stopped sometimes; sometimes I don’t. But, you know, with that being said, there are still two more Star Wars movies!

“It’s fun, it’s hard work, it makes you happy, it challenges you, it’s all of those things mixed into one, but fundamentally because of the great group that we have that I’m working with, it’s a great experience.”

The ceremony, thrown by bosses of Swiss jewellery brand Chopard, was also attended by new couple Liam Payne and Cheryl, forrmerly known by married name Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, who looked loved-up on the red carpet.
